With two weeks until La Liga kicks off on 14 August, Real Sociedad are yet to make a first-team signing. Their opener is set for Friday 21 August against Betis at La Cartuja, and Pellegrino Matarazzo still has no fresh faces at Zubieta beyond returning loanees.
Targets have been linked, including Mexico midfielder Edson Álvarez at West Ham. ESPN reports that La Real have submitted a €15 million offer for Jonathan Jesus, a 22-year-old centre-back at Cruzeiro, with Valencia and Betis also in the frame.
Outgoings have moved quicker. Transfers and exits for Caleta-Car, Wesley Gassova, Brais Méndez, Mikel Rodríguez and Carlos Fernández have been accelerated, with more expected before the window shuts. The thinning squad leaves Matarazzo with less time to bed in any arrivals.
The slow pace echoes recent summers. In 2023, after André Silva signed on two August, Arsen Zakharyan arrived on 19 August, Kieran Tierney on 27 August and Álvaro Odriozola on one September, all with the season already under way. In 2024, Orri Óskarsson and Nayef Aguerd were not registered until 30 August, the final day of the market.
Last season, Caleta-Car was first through the door on one August, followed by Gonçalo Guedes on four August, while Carlos Soler and Yangel Herrera joined on one September. Despite the delay, the club are calm, prioritising profiles that raise the level even if it means pushing decisions towards the deadline.
