Real Sociedad are still waiting to see the best of Take Kubo at the start of this campaign.
According to AS, the Japan forward has featured in the first four league matches, starting three, but has struggled for fluency. He has neither scored nor assisted so far, and his one-v-one work has lacked its usual edge.
American head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, speaking before the Espanyol game, said he is in frequent dialogue with Kubo and that the winger trained very well. He described Kubo as a special profile with clear quality, and expects him to play a major role this season. He added that recent displays have not shown everything Kubo can do, while expressing confidence he will get back to his best.
Kubo’s current level follows a difficult end to last season after physical problems. Injured in January in a clash with Barcelona, he spent several weeks out and did not regain his rhythm on return. He then went to the World Cup in summer with Japan, suffered an injury in the opening match, and missed the rest of the tournament before pre-season in Zubieta.
Now 25 and under contract at Real Sociedad until 2029, he has a 60 million euros release clause. He is regarded as one of the players expected to make the difference in the squad.
