‘Really nice people here’: Former Ajax striker Brian Brobbey enjoying his new home in Sunderland

Brian Brobbey is certainly enjoying his new home in Sunderland. The former Ajax striker made the move last summer and has clearly felt at home in England. Speaking about his time in Sunderland to the Sunderland Echo, the striker said ‘Really good, really nice people here. We have a good, close team’.

It is not just off the pitch that Brobbey is enjoying Sunderland. He also compared playing in the Stadium of Light to his time playing for Ajax, as well as away in European competitions at the likes of Marseille. Brobbey certainly feels that Sunderland’s home ground is up there with those two clubs.

With the World Cup just around the corner, the striker is hoping to catch form for Sunderland and earn himself a spot in the final Oranje squad. Brobbey told the local paper ‘I have to keep scoring goals. I don’t know how many. I take it game by game’.

The 24-year-old left Ajax after scoring 43 goals in 131 games for the side. He had already left the club once before, joining RB Leipzig in 2021. However, he only managed 14 goals for the German side before returning to Ajax. Things have gone slightly better for Brobbey in Sunderland. In 24 games he has scored five goals. However, whether or not that will be enough for him to earn a spot in Ronald Koeman’s World Cup squad surely depends on how well other strikers are playing and if any suffer injuries.
