During the international break, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers returned to his hometown of Carnlough to visit the site of a new cross-community sports complex dedicated to the memory of his late parents…

On Saturday, Rodgers and his wife Charlotte visited Maltina Park – a collaborative initiative between St John’s Camogie Club and Carnlough Swifts FC – as the initial stage of the ambitious Antrim Coast development neared completion.

The venue’s name serves as a touching dedication to Rodgers’ parents. A club representative commented: “Naming the ground Maltina Park reflects Brendan’s remarkable generosity, his constant support for our community, and his deep personal connection to the name. It symbolises the values of family, dedication and resilience that his parents instilled in him.”

Eamon McFadden, the chairman of St John’s Camogie Club, noted that Rodgers was genuinely touched by how much the project had advanced.

“It was brilliant to show Brendan and Charlotte around and highlight all the completed work from Phase One,” McFadden said via Love Ballymena.

“They took time to walk the full site, ask questions, and take in the scale of the project. Both were genuinely thrilled to be part of something so special, which will benefit St John’s, Carnlough Swifts, and so many local groups.”

A long-time supporter of community and youth projects in Carnlough, Rodgers appeared deeply proud of the tribute to his parents – a lasting legacy for the town where his own story started.

Returning to Lennoxtown, Rodgers will oversee training today and do press duties tomorrow as Celtic prepare for their Scottish Premiership clash on Sunday against Dundee at Dens Park, followed by a midweek home game versus Sturm Graz in the Europa League and then full focus turns towards a mouthwatering top of the table clash against Hearts at Tynecastle a week on Sunday.
