Barcelona’s search for reinforcements in the wide areas has hit an unexpected obstacle, with Victor Munoz ruling out a return to the club.
The winger, currently impressing at Osasuna, had emerged as a potential option for the Blaugrana, but the situation is far more complicated than it initially appeared.
According to journalist Xavi Espinosa, though, Munoz’s reluctance has little to do with his connections to Real Madrid.
Instead, the decision is rooted in how his earlier spell at Barcelona came to an end, a factor that continues to influence his thinking today.
It must be noted that Munoz was once part of La Masia, which he joined at the age of 14.
However, his time at the club was relatively short-lived. In 2017, he departed and moved to Damm, before eventually making the switch to Real Madrid’s academy in 2021.
That move proved pivotal in his development. After progressing through Madrid’s system, Munoz secured a move to Osasuna last year and has since adapted quickly to top-level football.

His performances have made him one of the more interesting young wingers in La Liga, naturally attracting attention from clubs looking to strengthen their attacking depth.
Barcelona, aware of his growth, have been monitoring his situation as part of their recruitment strategy.
However, his position effectively closes the door on any straightforward return, forcing the club to reconsider their options.
Even beyond the player’s personal decision, the structural complexities of the deal further complicate matters.
This is because Real Madrid retain significant control over Munoz’s future, holding 50% of his rights and also possessing a buy-back option worth around €8m.
On top of that, the winger’s release clause is set at €40m, placing him in a bracket where any transfer would require careful negotiation.
As a result, if Munoz does leave Osasuna in the near future, a return to Real Madrid appears far more realistic than a switch back to Barcelona.
