Franco Mastantuono, the 17-year-old starlet from River Plate, is one of the most talked-about young talents in football right now.

For months, Real Madrid looked like his next destination. In fact, the club had kept an eye on him and many believed it was only a matter of time before he signed for Los Blancos.

However, things have taken a sudden turn. According to a report by AS, PSG have now jumped ahead in the race and are doing everything they can to secure the teenager’s signature.

Luis Enrique, for that matter, has already spoken to the player several times. The French club have been very active in their efforts and seem to be getting closer to an agreement.

Interestingly, this is the result of Real Madrid’s own doing as they seem to prioritise developing their own talents over signing Mastantuono.

While Mastantuono always dreamed of playing in Spain, PSG’s approach may have caused him to stop waiting for Real Madrid to make a move.

The outlet assures that the belief in Real Madrid was that Mastantuono would fit well at the club, but a formal offer was never made.

Reports suggest that the club held back because they do not want to block the growth of Arda Guler, who is seen as a key part of the club’s future.

With players like Brahim Diaz already in the squad and Nico Paz expected to return, Real Madrid see this position as already well covered.

Although Real Madrid have been slow to act, there is still a small chance for them to change the situation. The publication claims that a quick decision could bring them back into the race.

Still, all signs currently point to Paris. Interestingly, River Plate’s vice-president confirmed that no club has made a formal offer yet, so the final outcome remains open.

This transfer saga is far from over.
