The sixth and final day of the Audi Summer Tour featured the Audi Football Summit against Aston Villa. President Herbert Hainer, board member for sport Max Eberl and board member for marketing and sales Rouven Kasper gave their review of the tour in a press conference, while Hainer, senior vice-president Prof. Dr. Dieter Mayer and Kasper, at the invitation of German Consul General Annika Bolten-Drutschmann, exchanged views with representatives of Hong Kong’s key sports organisations regarding Hong Kong as a location and FC Bayern’s internationalisation strategies. fcbayern.com brings you an overview of Friday’s events on the Audi Summer Tour.
In the closing Audi Football Summit against historic English club Aston Villa, FC Bayern triumped 2-1 at the Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong, with Minjae Kim and Luis Díaz scoring the goals for the Bavarians. The team headed straight from there to the airport for the flight back to Munich. Read more about the match in our analysis:
Bayern officials Hainer, Eberl and Kasper took stock of the Audi Summer Tour at a press conference, and took the opportunity to make an appeal to the rest of the Bundesliga. “When FC Bayern leads, the others cannot stand still. Internationalisation is not a solo act – the league has to pull together,” demanded Hainer. Read all the key statements here:
At the invitation of German Consul General Bolten-Drutschmann, FC Bayern president Hainer, vice-president Mayer and marketing director Kasper met with representatives of Hong Kong’s key sports organisations to discuss Hong Kong as a location and FC Bayern’s internationalisation efforts. Among the interested participants at the Consul General’s residence were Sports Commissioner George Tsoi and football association chief Eric Fok. This is the 10th Audi Summer Tour and the fifth such tour to take the club to Asia. Consul General Bolten-Drutschmann acknowledged the role of football in building bridges as well as FC Bayern’s international engagement, and expressed a desire to see more Bundesliga presence in Hong Kong.
Ahead of the Audi Football Summit against Aston Villa, Hainer and Kasper also met representatives of the Football Association of Hong Kong (HKFA), the Hong Kong government as well as the promoters of the friendly.
At the Family Day held at the adidas office in Hong Kong, Kasper, legend Roy Makaay, mascot Berni and former Aston Villa player James Chester teamed up with local staff to create a special football experience. A host guided the attendees through the programme, which saw the adidas workforce – including many children – test their skills in an ‘Interactive Football Challenge’ featuring various ball-handling tasks. A large group photo with the staff and an autograph session with the guests followed, bringing the event to a close and leaving behind plenty of beaming faces and a strong sense of the ‘Mia san mia’ spirit in the daily lives of the adidas employees.
At an SAP event in Hong Kong, Makaay spoke about key moments in his career, ranging from his greatest goals and special matches to the defining stages of his professional journey. The discussion also covered the role of technology and data in modern football, the impact of analysis tools on training, match preparation and player development, and how significantly the sport has changed compared to his playing days. Makaay took plenty of time to answer questions from the guests and continued the conversation later that day at an Allianz Global Investors meet-and-greet in the Allianz office; there, he once again answered numerous questions, shared stories from his career, and patiently posed for photos and signed autographs. The event concluded with interactive games, autograph sessions and selfies with the guests.
At the ‘adidas grassroots clinic’ held at Diocesan Boys’ School, the children took part in a training session they won’t forget in a hurry. Guided by FC Bayern legend Giovane Elber and an Aston Villa legend, two youth teams completed a varied programme featuring technical drills, game-based exercises and mini-competitions before facing off against each other in matches. Afterwards, the football stars took the time for a meet-and-greet with the participating kids and answered numerous questions during a Q&A session, covering everything from top training tips to their personal favourite moments on the pitch.
