Nottingham Forest have omitted record signing Omari Hutchinson and new Arsenal loanee Oleksandr Zinchenko from their squad for the Europa League group stage.
Hutchinson joined Forest from Ipswich Town in a £37.5 million deal in August following a breakthrough season at Portman Road, while Zinchenko arrived from Arsenal on deadline day. Despite their summer arrivals, neither will be available as Forest prepare for their first European campaign in 30 years.
The Premier League side were only able to register a 22-man squad for the league phase of the competition, rather than the maximum 25 players permitted by UEFA. Forest have just one club-trained player (Ryan Yates) and UEFA rules require four such players for a full 25-man squad.
As a result, several other summer signings have also missed out. Goalkeeper Angus Gunn, defenders Jair Cunha and Cuiabano (who has since returned to Botafogo on loan), as well as forwards Jota Silva and Taiwo Awoniyi, will not be part of the squad at this stage.
Despite the omissions, Forest have included other new arrivals such as Dan Ndoye, Dilane Bakwa, John Victor, Nicolò Savona, James McAtee and Douglas Luiz in the 22-man group.
The Reds kick off their Europa League campaign with a trip to Real Betis on Wednesday, 24 September. Clubs are allowed to make three changes to their squad between the group stage and the knockout rounds, meaning Hutchinson, Zinchenko and the others could feature later in the tournament.
