As per reports from Voetbal International, Netherlands striker Vivienne Miedema has revealed she’s feeling more like her old self after fully recovering from a cruciate ligament injury. Miedema completed the ninety minutes in the goalless European Championship qualifying match against Italy on Friday evening and is expected to return for the match with Norway on Tuesday night.
Unsure what to expect in her comeback Leeuwinnen game, the initial agreement with the coaching staff was that she would play an hour and assess her fitness. However, she played the whole match, stating afterwards: “I am tired, but also satisfied.”
She continued, “The result was disappointing. I saw that effort go in the second half. That would have made it all the more beautiful. But I’m happy with those ninety minutes. For the first time since November 2022. I was in constant contact with the bench, after an hour we would see. It actually got better and better, it felt good.”
Miedema, now of Manchester City’s ranks, played in a withdrawn role behind the dovetailing pair Esmee Brugts and Lineth Beerensteyn. Hoping to make a bigger impact against Norway in Bergen, Miedema concluded hopefully: “I felt better and better. It was no risk to stay standing. I sometimes felt like the old Viev.”
