Severe weather alerts have brought sport in Castellón to a standstill, with the Federació de Futbol de la Comunitat Valenciana suspending all fixtures scheduled for Friday 2 October.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, 86 matches across the region are off, 10 of them in the province. The freeze covers official and friendly games, including delegated national competitions such as Tercera Federación, Tercera División Futfem, Liga Nacional Juvenil and Tercera División de fútbol sala.
Red and orange warnings remain in place for intense rain and storms, with high accumulations in short periods, possible hail and very strong winds. Municipalities have tightened precautions, cutting back in-person activity, and Castelló’s city council has shut all municipal sports facilities, indoor and outdoor, until the red alert ends.
The knock-on effect has reached clubs. Amics Castelló cancelled Thursday’s academy training and will decide on Friday’s sessions as the storm evolves, while Nou Bàsquet Femení also called off all Thursday work. The Provincial Veterans Football Association has postponed this weekend’s round.
The Mediterranean Epic Gravel in Sant Jordi intends to run Saturday’s race subject to alerts, after cancelling part of Friday. Villarreal events in Passió Groga and at the Maestro Canós school move to next week, and the Sergio García Júnior Championship golf event faces uncertainty at its Friday start.
For now, the blanket suspension applies only to Friday. Further decisions for Saturday and Sunday will depend on the weather and any municipal venue closures.
Among Friday’s called-off football in Castellón: Alqueries v Almazora, Lliga Comunitat, 20.15; Cabanes v Catí, Segona FFCV, 20.45; Nules B v Esportiu Vila-real B, Tercera FFCV, 20.45.
