Manchester United now face a significant financial commitment following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, with the terms of his contract leaving little room for a reduced settlement.

Under the agreement Amorim signed when departing Sporting CP in November 2024, there is no provision for a discounted exit. As a result, United are required to pay out the remainder of his deal in full, which was due to run until 2027 and included the option of an additional year.

United paid a fee of €11million (£9.25m; $11.95m) to appoint Amorim from Sporting, where he enjoyed considerable success. During his time in Lisbon, he won the Primeira Liga in 2021 and again in 2024, as well as lifting the Taca da Liga on two occasions.

The Portuguese coach replaced Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, with the Dutchman departing after two and a half years in charge of the club.
