Ligue 2 side Red Star FC are in advanced negotiations with Polish side Widzew Łódź over the return of striker Pape Meissa Ba, according to a report from Foot Mercato. Courted by Queens Park Rangers during the summer, the Senegalese forward joined Widzew Łódź on a free transfer from Schalke. Ba remains a cult figure at Stade Bauer following a prolific spell during the 2021–22 season, when he finished as the Championnat National’s top scorer with 21 goals and five assists, playing a decisive role in Red Star’s promotion push from the third division before joining Grenoble. With GF38 Ba managed to become one of the deadliest strikers in Ligue 2, causing Schalke 04 to call on his services. His career has since stalled somewhat following those moves abroad, and is now in talks to return to France, and Saint-Ouen. Red Star currently sit third in the Ligue 2 table after a start to the season which has seen Les Audoniens become the surprise promotion dark horses this season. GFFN | George Boxall
