Athlone Town’s pair Derin Adewale and Aaron Moloney have had a good start to the season, picking up seven points from a possible nine to start their league campaign. Aaron has started each game so far in midfield and played a key role in impressive wins at home to Finn Harps and away to Kerry FC. After a good pre-season that included a goal for Derin Adewale in the Leinster Senior Cup, Derin picked up a knock and missed out on the first two games of the season. Derin is back fit now, though, and returned to action as a substitute for the last twenty-five minutes in this week’s 2–2 draw versus Wexford FC.
Honourable mention to James Roche, who also played every minute for Athlone in their two wins this season. James maintained his 100% record for the season on Friday night away in Drogheda. Having been recalled from his loan earlier in the week, James came on as a substitute at Sullivan & Lambe Park as the Reds saw off Drogheda United, helping the team secure their first win of the season and maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign.
Taylor McCarthy got his season up and running on a personal note this week with a great performance for Longford Town away to Kerry FC. His side battled hard for their second point of the season and defended well in Tralee, with Taylor playing at centre-half for the full 90 minutes.
Prior to the season starting, our two loanees at Bray Wanderers, Dan Ring and Tyreik Sammy, impressed in a pre-season friendly versus our own men’s first team, both going close on the evening. Since then, the two have played in all three games for Bray Wanderers so far this season. Ring has started twice up front and came on as a substitute in Bray’s away win versus Treaty United, whilst Sammy has held down a starting spot on the left wing to begin the campaign.
