Chelsea defender Reece James has suffered a hamstring injury and will miss Tuesday’s Champions League last-16 second leg against PSG at 21:00.
According to The Athletic, the 26-year-old club captain faces several weeks out, and the prospect of him not featuring again this season cannot be ruled out.
It is another setback for the England right-back, whose fitness issues are well documented, having missed 119 matches over the past five seasons.
More spared this term, James signed a new deal last week, extending his contract by a further six years.
With three months until the World Cup, the 22-cap international is now in a race to regain fitness and to convince head coach Thomas Tuchel to take him to the United States.
