A VAR review overturned a penalty initially awarded to Internacional during the first half of Gre-Nal 451, the second leg of the Gauchão final at Beira-Rio.
Grupo RBS’s refereeing analyst Diori Vasconcelos later argued the on-field decision should have been upheld.
At 41 minutes, Alan Patrick went down in the Grêmio area and referee Rafael Klein pointed to the spot. After a brief flare-up among players, the video team, led by Marcello Ignacio Domingues Neto, called a review.
Klein checked the monitor and rescinded the penalty, judging there was no foul on Inter’s number 10. He instead cautioned Viery for stamping on Borré following the initial award.
In first-half stoppage time, Gustavo Martins scored for Grêmio.
The reversal drew fury from Inter supporters, who responded with ironic applause. At the interval, Alan Patrick said the 2026 final had been ruined.
