Referee Flávio Rodrigues de Souza recorded a mass fracas between Corinthians and Palmeiras in the stadium tunnels after their 0-0 Dérbi in the 11th round of the Brasileiro at Neo Química Arena on Sunday night.
According to Meu Timao, his match report says the doping control team were heading to their room with Palmeiras forward Luighi Hanri Sousa Santos when a Corinthians security guard pushed the player, and officials did not witness assaults on footballers from either side.
The document states that the shove triggered a broader melee involving security staff from both clubs, and that Anderson Barros of Palmeiras, Corinthians head coach Fernando Diniz and the match delegate helped restore order.
After the game both clubs traded claims of assaults by security on players, with Corinthians naming Gabriel Paulista and Breno Bidon and Palmeiras citing Luighi. Each released statements indicating players should file complaints with the stadium’s Jecrim, though only the Palmeiras forward lodged one on site.
Any case could proceed on three fronts, with a criminal probe including a forensic exam and evidence gathering, possible action by the STJD, and civil liability that could fall on Corinthians because the area is under the club’s control.
Brazilian law holds employers responsible for the acts of employees, the civil statute of limitations is three years, and any criminal conviction could strengthen a civil claim.
Corinthians host Independiente Santa Fe of Colombia on Wednesday at 21:30 in the Libertadores group stage.
