Santos head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda was sent off after the 2-2 draw at Mirassol on Tuesday, the referee citing traded insults and a flashpoint with opposite number Rafael Guanaes in the fifth round of the Brasileirão.
According to Globo.com, referee Rafael Claus wrote in his match report that Vojvoda argued and exchanged insults with Mirassol coach Rafael Silva Guanaes after full time, prompting a minor commotion before team-mates intervened.
The red card was shown post-match. As a result, Vojvoda will be absent from the Santos bench for Sunday’s derby against Corinthians at Vila Belmiro, scheduled for 16:00 Brasilia time.
Vojvoda is under pressure at the club, though he has earned a reprieve for now. The board plan to observe the team through the fixtures against Corinthians and Internacional in the Campeonato Brasileiro before reassessing his position.
There are strong calls for the Argentine to depart, intensified by the display at Mirassol after around 10 days of work.
