Refereeing body admits major error in Monaco v Strasbourg draw | OneFootball

Ligue 1’s refereeing body has acknowledged a major mistake in AS Monaco’s 1-1 draw with RC Strasbourg Alsace.

In its weekly review on Monday, the body said Monaco should have been awarded a penalty after Matthis Abline was tripped in the 89th minute with the score level. Referee Éric Wattellier did not spot the foul and the VAR team did not intervene.

The match finished 1-1, Paris Brunner scored from long range to cancel out an earlier Sadibou Sané own goal.

After the game, Filipe Luís criticised the lack of VAR intervention, and Monaco sent a letter to the refereeing body.

Monaco also contested Strasbourg’s goal, pointing to a potential handball by a Strasbourg player in the build-up to the free-kick that they scored from.
