As reported by Glorioso 1904, the Liga Betclic 2025/26 refereeing assessment logged 40 matches with unsatisfactory decisions by referees and/or VAR. Almost half involved Benfica, Sporting and Porto, and the conclusions indicate Benfica had the most grounds for complaint.

Benfica’s meeting with Alverca on matchday 21 features prominently. At 69 minutes, Chissumba tripped Leandro Barreiro inside the box, which the analysis says should have led to a Benfica penalty. Referee Bruno Costa did not award it.

Another decisive moment went unpunished when Rodrigo Pinheiro handled an Andreas Schjelderup cross, with neither referee Gustavo Correia nor VAR Rui Oliveira intervening. Against Braga, a Benfica goal was ruled out following an incident involving Richard Ríos and Vítor Carvalho.

The rivals also benefited from disputed calls. Sporting beat Santa Clara 2-1 with a 90+4-minute winner after a corner that was incorrectly given. Versus Estrela da Amadora, they were denied a penalty for an Otávio foul on Luis Suárez. They also saw a Famalicão goal cancelled after a debatable offence on Maxi Araújo.

Porto were given an unwarranted penalty against Arouca after an incident between Yellu and Seko Fofana. Zaidu avoided a red card versus Moreirense, then in the Famalicão game struck Gustavo Sá in the face in the area without a penalty being awarded.
