Sunderland head coach Régis Le Bris says Premier League points will come quickly if his side sustain their recent performance levels, despite back-to-back defeats leaving them on four points from five matches.

As reported by Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats enter a three-week international break after troubling Arsenal and Manchester City, and defeating AZ Alkmaar 1-0 in their first European game for 53 years.

Le Bris called it a tough week of Arsenal, Alkmaar then Manchester City. He highlighted positives in style and squad development, accepting the points return was not. He cited Brian Brobbey’s improving form, capped by a hat-trick at the Etihad, as a sign that persistence can bring rewards.

The head coach is hopeful of Habib Diarra returning during the busy spell after the break. Diarra has been out since the 1-0 win over Fulham, when he came on to assist Wilson Isidor before suffering a hamstring injury.

He will have a scan at the start of this week to gauge whether he can move into the final phase of rehab. It is not yet clear if he will be fit for Brighton’s visit to the Stadium of Light, though he should be able to play a significant part before the next international break in November. Le Bris added that, depending on the results, Diarra could need two or three weeks to be ready for competition.
