Régis Le Bris says Sunderland are still pushing to strengthen before the deadline. The window closes at 7pm on Monday, an hour before their Premier League game against Burnley at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats have so far added youngster Jocelin Ta Bi, with several loans and permanent exits. They want depth in key areas, but will not rush. Le Bris said the club remain active and late business cannot be ruled out.

Declining to discuss individuals, he described a market of heavy interest and few deals. Sunderland, he said, do not need to hurry, are content with the squad, and will try to reinforce if possible. He added that work continues under the radar and the final days are often busier, saying he is optimistic though he might be naive.

Further outgoings are anticipated, more likely loans for fringe players. Wilson Isidor has been linked amid limited minutes, and speculation of FC Paris interest in Eliezer Mayenda was dismissed by Sunderland sources. Le Bris said he is happy up front, with two recognised strikers and a versatile option.

Anthony Patterson’s potential loan exit has been complicated after Bayer Leverkusen signed potential replacement Jonas Omlin. Le Bris said there is no change for now, and any move remains an option only with a replacement.

He added one or two others could leave to find minutes if suitable moves arise. The Sunderland captain is progressing, with another assessment due in around one week and rehabilitation likely to take about three more weeks.
