Régis Le Bris says a visa issue is holding up Juan Angulo’s Sunderland debut after his deadline-day switch, with the club working to resolve the paperwork.
According to Sunderland Echo, the Ecuadorian completed a move from Independiente del Valle in the final hours of the summer window, then missed Saturday’s 1-1 Premier League draw at Brentford.
Sunderland host Hull City in the Carabao Cup third round on Tuesday night, when Le Bris plans to make nine or 10 changes. The tie could hand minutes to recent arrivals and fringe players, with Dayann Methalie and Malick Fofana expected to start.
Angulo could be considered if the paperwork arrives in time, though Le Bris said it might be too soon and described it as a straightforward visa matter that should be solved with time.
Once available, the striker will offer another option to an improving attack. Sunderland produced their most fluent display of the season at Brentford, registering 14 shots and an expected-goals figure of 1.85.
"We have this ability to be dominant away from home, especially here," Le Bris said after the Brentford game. "We still have this character. If we can have this domination and become more clinical, we’ll have a good future."
