Sunderland return to Premier League duty on Sunday afternoon at Everton, with Régis Le Bris weighing up his XI and bench for a significant fixture.

According to Sunderland Echo, last weekend’s strong display against Manchester United has created selection calls. Both sides are targeting a top-half finish and keep only an outside chance of Europe if they end well.

In goal, Robin Roefs is tipped to keep his place after a valuable clean sheet and a smart late stop, momentum he will hope to carry into this match.

At right-back, Lutsharel Geertruida featured last week and was among Sunderland’s best performers, so he looks well placed to stay in the XI despite uncertainty over his future, with Le Bris clearly focused on the present.

Nordi Mukiele is ideally used at right-back, but the reshuffle in Ballard’s absence worked last week and he looked comfortable at centre-back, so he seems likely to continue there.

Omar Alderete has been a mainstay this season and, after the clean sheet last time out, there appears little reason to change that now.
