Rego hopes to spend his whole career at Athletic | OneFootball

Alejandro Rego has expressed a desire to remain at Athletic for the long term, with his contract due to expire on 30 June.

As reported by as.com, the club hold a unilateral option to extend his deal by two years to June 2028, and talks over new terms have been ongoing for weeks. The report adds that his performances this season support taking that path.

The Bilbao-born midfielder, a Lezama graduate who made his Primera debut this season, says he feels at home at Athletic and would be proud to build his career there for many years.

A lifelong Athletic devotee, he joined friends from Barakaldo to celebrate the Copa on La Gabarra in 2024 among the crowds by Bilbao City Hall, recalling that they could barely move and that the day was incredible.

For now, the club can keep him through 2028 while discussions continue. Rego remains clear about his preference to stay put.
