Manchester City have announced the squad numbers for the Club World Cup. Tijjani Reijnders, who joined from AC Milan, will seemingly feature in an uncharacteristic shirt.

Among the newest batch of Manchester City players brought in ahead of the Club World Cup, like Marcus Bettinelli, Rayan Aït-Nouri, and Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders has received his new shirt number… the number four.

Yes, although it is one typically reserved for defenders, Reijnders will wear the number four shirt at the United States’ tournament. That said, it remains to be seen whether that’ll be his number for the new Premier League season.

Reijnders wore number 14 at AC Milan, yet this was taken by Nico González, who joined from FC Porto halfway through last season. Due to Kalvin Phillips’ loan to Ipswich Town, shirt number four was still available.

Manchester City will start the Club World Cup on Wednesday 18 June with a match against Wydad Casablanca. On Monday 23 June, a meeting with Al-Ain awaits, before they play Juventus three days later.
