Reinaldo says the “resenha” tag has hindered his career and that social media criticism once left him playing in fear. The 36-year-old Mirassol left-back reflected on his trajectory and felt overlooked for Brazil despite strong years at São Paulo.

“I had great moments at São Paulo, wonderful years in numbers and in performance, in everything. I think I should even have been remembered for the Seleção, for example, they never talked about Reinaldo even performing at a high level,” he said, speaking to Abre Aspas.

“People focused too much on the resenha and did not look enough at numbers and performance. I think that stuck. Now, at the end of my career, everyone is seeing it is not just resenha, there is football too.”

“I went into games afraid of making a mistake, then I froze.” He has made more than 800 senior appearances and is playing the Brasileirão for the 15th consecutive season.

Known for his upbeat personality, he explained that in Brazilian dressing-room parlance resenha can mean a relaxed chat or a jokey storyteller. He reminisced about marking Arjen Robben, facing Lionel Messi “that small”, and shared light-hearted tales of Luis Suárez from his Grêmio spell.

He also highlighted Fernando Diniz’s influence on his career and described himself as a fanatical São Paulo supporter. He still hopes for a Brazil call-up. “I keep dreaming and working.”
