Sarina Wiegman is relaxed about her future as Lionesses boss, as her current contract is set to expire after the 2027 World Cup.

The Dutchwoman has a phenomenal record in management, reaching the final in all five major tournaments she has managed and winning three successive European Championships, with the Netherlands in 2017 and the Lionesses in 2022 and 2025.

Having lost the World Cup finals in 2019 and 2023, she has her eyes on one prize as the Brazil World Cup approaches in 2027.

“We all know that we have until 2027,” Wiegman said, when asked about signing a new deal. “We haven’t had any clear conversations but I’m still really enjoying the job and I think the team is still enjoying that I am around. Let’s see what the future will bring.

“I am very relaxed about it. I don’t look forward and plan my career, I just know what I really enjoy and I want things to fit.”

England beat Asian Champions China 8-0 on Saturday at Wembley, in the third of a four-match ‘Homecoming Series’ celebrating their victorious summer with fans around the country.

Despite this being a friendly, Wiegman played a very strong team, with some wondering whether she might have given some of the youngsters more of a chance.

The fourth match is against Ghana on Tuesday 2 December at St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton.

“We’ll make some changes against Ghana,” Wiegman added. “But we also don’t have that many chances to play and play friendlies.

“After this camp we only have eight more to go until the World Cup and we need to qualify first. We want to use time in camp as much as possible.

“There’s always connection with [club] managers, always calls before and after camp. I am very aware of their schedules.”

Wiegman also reflected on returning to Southampton and a ground where she managed her first Lionesses match: “Time flies! That first game feels like ages ago but I still have a good memory of that. It was a nice start to England. It is nice to be back.”
