1. A Rout at the Azteca During the 110th Anniversary

Matchday 7 of Apertura 2016 delivered one of those nights the Chivahermanos remember with a smile. Chivas visited América and found their leading figure in Isaac Brizuela. ‘El Cone’ took advantage of the team’s momentum to score twice and lead an outstanding Rojiblanco performance before halftime.

The Rojiblanco celebration continued in the second half. Carlos Peña stepped up to make it 3-0. In doing so, the Rebañorecorded an unforgettable rout at Estadio Azteca, right in the middle of América’s 100th-anniversary celebrations.

2. Clausura 2006: The Rebaño Shut Down the Águilas

The Clausura 2006 Semifinal featured Guadalajara and América as the protagonists. Chivas had taken a 2-0 lead in the first leg thanks to goals from Ramón Morales and Omar Bravo, giving them a favorable position heading into the return leg.

At Estadio Azteca, the Rebaño knew how to manage the series and kept a clean sheet throughout the 90 minutes. The scoreless draw was enough to secure a 2-0 aggregate victory, eliminate their fiercest rival, and send the team on its way to what would become the Clausura 2006 championship.

3. Clausura 2023: A Comeback for the History Books

Estadio Azteca once again provided the setting for an unforgettable Chivas night in the Clausura 2023 Semifinal. With Veljko Paunovic on the bench, Guadalajara arrived with a deficit after losing the first leg.

The Rebaño found the formula to hurt América in the second half. Alan Mozo stepped up to make it 2-1 and put Chivasjust one goal away from the Final. Just when it seemed time was running out, Gilberto Orozco appeared inside the box and connected with a header that sent the ball into the back of the net. The 3-1 scoreline sparked Rojiblanco celebrations and completed a 3-2 aggregate comeback that sent Guadalajara into the Grand Final.

4. 1982 Semifinal: A Rojiblanco Comeback

In the Semifinal of the 1982-83 season, Chivas entered the second leg after falling 2-1 to the Águilas at Estadio Jalisco. However, the Rojiblanco response was emphatic. Guadalajara won the return leg 3-0 and overturned the series with a 4-2 aggregate victory, thanks to goals from Ricardo ‘Snoopy’ Pérez, Demetrio Madero, and Samy Rivas. The result sent Guadalajara into the Grand Final against Puebla.

5. The Copa MX Penalty Shootout

The 2016 Copa MX also delivered a special night for Guadalajara at América’s home ground. The two teams met in the Semifinals and, after 90 minutes, the score was tied 1-1, meaning the place in the Final had to be decided from the penalty spot.

That’s where Antonio Rodríguez became the hero. The Rojiblanco goalkeeper saved Osmar Mares’ penalty and sent Guadalajara through to the Copa MX Final. The save ultimately tipped the balance and sparked the Chiverío’s celebrations at the Coloso de Santa Úrsula.
