Renato Augusto honoured by Corinthians, eyes future in football

Last Thursday, 18th, the now former midfielder Renato Augusto announced his retirement as a football player, receiving a tribute from Corinthians. However, he plans to continue within the sport after hanging up his boots, even without deciding the specification.

“I still don't know very well what I want. I had some conversations with some clubs, some searches, some inquiries. Both for the technical part, and to be a director. Some cool things. But I think at this moment, first is to give this time to the family and then prepare myself for a new stage of life. And really start a new life“, said Renato to GE.

In the People's Team, the eternal number 8 was champion of the Paulistão, Recopa Sul-Americana and Brasileirão, in 2015, when he was the star of the championship. On the field were 243 games, 43 assists and 30 goals scored, also counting the second stint, which lasted between 2021 and 2023.

“It's very hard for you to really say: I'm going to stop. Because I've done this my whole life. And I don't even want to get into the time of school. I'm talking about federation, with every Sunday having a game, everything nice, since I was six years old. For 31 years I only did this. And I always said: "man, it's going to be easy. When I say 'I'm going to stop', it's going to be easy". And I saw that it wasn't. It cost me to understand that I needed to start thinking about it. What weighed me the most, besides the body starting to feel the difference from one game to another, from one training to another, was that I wanted to be closer to my family“, commented the former athlete.

His last club was Fluminense, as mentioned. While playing for the club from Laranjeiras, a moment with Corinthians was marked: in a confrontation between the two teams, he entered the field and was applauded by the Fiel Torcida, at Neo Química Arena. Since then, there have been no more meetings.

According to the player, however, he should not start his new career right after hanging up his boots. He has other responsibilities at the moment, such as paying attention to his children, taking care of the house renovation and spending more time with his wife.
