Renato Gaúcho has begun brightly at Vasco, taking 10 points from 12 with three wins and one draw in four Campeonato Brasileiro matches, equalling the club’s best start by a coach in the SAF era.
According to Globo.com, his 87.5% return matches Mauricio Barbieri and Fábio Carille, who also opened with three wins and a draw in four, achieved in the Campeonato Carioca. Renato’s sequence has come solely in the league.
Since arriving, Renato has underlined that the Brasileiro is the priority, stressing results above style. He said he wants his side to play well but would always take the three points, noted they were more alert than against Fluminense, and accepted errors let Grêmio into the contest. He felt Vasco deserved the win after finding second-half spaces, adding that sometimes teams must tighten up and read where they are suffering.
Vasco will use the FIFA international break to recover players and to further absorb Portaluppi’s ideas.
The next match is away to Coritiba at Estádio Couto Pereira on Wednesday, 1 April at 20:30, in the ninth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Victory would leave Renato out on his own with the best start since the SAF was instituted in 2022.
