Rene Adler – former goalkeeper of both Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburger SV – had heaped praise on the shoulders of Daniel Heuer Fernandes.
“Ferro is a pillar of HSV's success in recent years. He has significantly shaped the club's recent history,” Adler said, in an interview with his former employers Hamburg.
"His performances are simply outstanding so far this season. I never had the feeling that he wasn't ready for the Bundesliga.
“He's one of those players who develops with the challenges he faces. Ferro is far from finished. I'm happy for him that he's currently receiving such appreciation,” he added.
The 41-year-old, who played over 173 games for Leverkusen and a further 129 at HSV, will watch his two former club's clash tomorrow after the original game was postponed by snowfall.
"I already had tickets for the original date [back in January] and was just about to get in the car [to go to the stadium] when I found out the game was cancelled.
"I was supposed to meet a friend at the stadium who had traveled all the way from Lüneburg, so we went out for a meal instead. We're really looking forward to the game finally taking place.
"When I watch HSV games, it's as a fan. I have a soft spot for the team and enjoy going to the stadium for the experience. I really enjoy it. I get caught up in the excitement like any other fan.
"I'm not so deeply involved anymore that the result lingers in my mind long after the final whistle,” Adler said, leaving now room for loyalties ahead of the game.
