Renée Slegers hails Corinthians, eyes Copa das Campeãs final v Arsenal

The FIFA Women's Champions Cup final will feature two standout teams on the international stage: Corinthians and Arsenal. The English club secured its spot in the final after thrashing AS FAR 6-0 and will be led in the final by the 36-year-old Dutch coach Renée Slegers.

After qualifying, Slegers spoke about the clash against Timão and highlighted the Brazilian team's performance in the competition's semifinal. The coach praised how Corinthians managed the decisive moments of the match and emphasized the collective characteristics of the alvinegro team.

“I am impressed by today’s victory (Wednesday), how they handled the different moments of the game, with the goal at the end and how they managed the match until the end. It is a disciplined team, with passion and desire. They represent what the country wants. This can be seen in the way they perform on the field. They apply a lot of pressure. I will review the game, study Corinthians, and come up with a plan,” commented the coach in a press conference.

The final will also draw attention due to the generational contrast between the protagonists. Renée Slegers is four years younger than Gabi Zanotti, Corinthians' number 10, who is 40 years old and was decisive in the semifinal by scoring the winning goal against Gotham FC.

When asked about facing a player older than herself, the Arsenal coach reacted with surprise.

“Wow,” said the coach, making a face. “I don’t know if I’ve played (with any Corinthians player), but that is impressive,” highlighted the Dutchwoman.

Corinthians returns to the field next Sunday, February 1st, at 3 PM (Brasília time) to compete in the FIFA Women's Champions Cup final against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in London.
