According to a report by L’Équipe, Stade Rennais have approached Olympique de Marseille over the prospect of signing Bamo Meïté (22) this summer. The good relationship between the new sporting director of Rennes (Frederic Massara) and Marseille’s Medhi Benatia meant that there was a quick response to the enquiry.

Marseille will not sell Meïté to Rennes for anything less than €30 million. A price tag that will surely see the northern side move on to other more attainable targets. Marseille are looking to rebuild this summer, and the club hierarchy believe that the former FC Lorient defender will be an important part of the squad under Roberto De Zerbi.

Despite this, there had been some question marks hanging over Meïté’s future in the city. The defender was reportedly left disturbed by the violent scenes he witnessed after the final game of the season. Meïté watched as two of his teammates (Faris Moumbagna and Jean Onana) were shot at in an attempted car-jacking.
