There’s still a chance for Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez to feature in Sunday’s high-stakes Serie A clash against Fiorentina.
According to Il Giornale via FCInter1908, the Argentine striker is facing a race against time to make himself available for Inter’s trip to Tuscany.
Inter have been up the creek without a paddle since losing their most prolific center-forward to injury last month.
Indeed, Cristian Chivu has overseen just one win in four competitive matches in the 28-year-old’s absence.
However, the Nerazzurri are still one step away from winning the Scudetto, boasting a handsome eight-point lead over second-placed AC Milan.
Nevertheless, Chivu is desperate to welcome Lautaro back to the fold.
Chivu had hoped Marcus Thuram could find his footing in Lautaro’s absence, but the Frenchman continues to underperform.
Indeed, his last Serie A goal came in a 5-0 rout of Sassuolo in early February.
As a result of Thuram’s dip in form, it’s unsurprising that Inter have averaged under one goal per game in their last four outings.
Therefore, Lautaro’s return cannot come soon enough, with El Toro looking to make the matchday squad this weekend.
On a more positive note, Hakan Calhanoglu will stake his claim for a place in the starting XI after overcoming a minor muscle problem.
