Ollie Watkins to Fenerbahce? Aston Villa Face Transfer Pressure Over Star Striker

Fenerbahce are exploring a summer move for Ollie Watkins, with Aston Villa facing a situation that could gather pace if finances sharpen the club’s thinking in the weeks ahead. According to Sports View, the Turkish side are “keen on a summer move for Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins” as they look for a leading forward to front their plans for 2026/27.

There is no suggestion Villa are actively pushing the England international out. In fact, the current stance is clear, they “are not yet prepared to part ways with their talisman”. Even so, the report adds that “current financial pressures could force a sale, particularly as they look to retain Arsenal target Morgan Rogers”. That is the detail to watch, because squad management, PSR concerns and contract priorities often shape decisions as much as pure football logic.

Fenerbahce Interest in Ollie Watkins Builds

Fenerbahce’s ambition is obvious. They are “determined to challenge city rivals Galatasaray” and are targeting a high-profile striker to lead that push. Watkins fits the profile. The report states they are “prepared to offer improved terms”, underlining their intent to tempt the “terrific” forward to Istanbul.

From Villa’s perspective, Watkins remains central to everything. He is still “the focal point of Unai Emery’s high-intensity attack” and the numbers back that up, 21 goals and five assists in 55 appearances last season. He also played a major role as Villa reached Europa League glory in May and secured a top-four Premier League finish.

Aston Villa Hold Strong Position Over Watkins

With “two years remaining on his contract”, Villa are in a relatively strong position if contact becomes formal. Any replacement for a striker of this level would cost heavily in the current market, especially with Champions League football returning to Villa Park. That naturally raises the threshold for any deal.

There are other moving parts in the background too. Villa are seeking a new midfielder after Amadou Onana’s injury, while their reported interest in Johan Manzambi appears to have ended with the player set to join Newcastle United. Watkins, meanwhile, is on World Cup duty with England ahead of Saturday’s clash with Norway.

Our View

Speaking as a Villa supporter, this is exactly the sort of report that makes you uneasy, even if nothing is advanced yet. Watkins is not simply another good Premier League forward, he is the heartbeat of this attack. When the article says Villa are “not yet prepared to part ways with their talisman”, that is the key line for me. He has earned that status through consistency, work rate and big-game output.

There is also a wider point here. If Villa genuinely want to establish themselves as Champions League regulars, selling Watkins sends the wrong message unless the fee is enormous and the replacement is ready-made. Those players are rare, and they are expensive. Losing a striker who delivered 21 goals and five assists, and who helped drive silverware and a top-four finish, would be a massive gamble.

I understand the concern around financial pressures and the need to protect someone like Morgan Rogers. But if Villa want to keep progressing under Emery, the priority should be keeping their best performers together. Watkins gives this side identity, reliability and leadership from the front. Fenerbahce may admire him, and fairly so, but from a Villa point of view the answer should be simple, keep him, build around him, and attack next season with ambition.
