Aston Villa are on the verge of completing the signing of 17-year-old Aberdeen midfielder Fletcher Boyd, according to a report from Football Insider. The highly-rated attacking talent is set to undergo a medical on Sunday, with a full agreement in place between both clubs and the player.
Boyd, who joined the Dons academy in 2017, burst onto the senior scene in May 2024, scoring within 10 minutes of his debut against Hibernian. His technical ability, movement in tight areas and eye for goal mark him as one of Scotland’s most exciting youth prospects.
“Villa now look set to land the teenage sensation, and will hope that he can capitalise on his obvious potential once he completes his move to the Midlands.”
The Birmingham club’s youth investment continues at pace, reflecting a clear strategy under Unai Emery to blend proven talent with future stars. Boyd has also made his mark internationally, representing Scotland at Under-15 level and registering two goals in eight appearances for the Under-16s.
While Villa are bringing talent in, they may face a battle to keep hold of one of their own. Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Morgan Rogers is genuine, though Football Insider reports Spurs will have to pay a “huge transfer fee” to prise him away from Villa Park.

“Tottenham had opened preliminary talks to sign Rogers as the end of the window looms, but are keen to barter Aston Villa down from their £100million valuation.”
Rogers has emerged as a key figure under Emery, and Villa will be reluctant to sell, particularly this close to the deadline. Tottenham’s recent signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig is unlikely to be their final piece of summer business. Football Insider also state, “Thomas Frank wants both a number 10 and a winger,” suggesting Brentford may enter the frame too.
Villa’s assertive approach in youth recruitment signals a commitment to building depth and sustainability. Signing Boyd fits that narrative. Simultaneously, their hardline stance on Rogers reinforces their intent to retain key assets and push higher up the Premier League.
With the window closing on Monday, the pressure will mount on both deals. For Villa, completing Boyd’s move would be another feather in the cap for their academy strategy. Holding on to Rogers would cement their growing stature.
As a Villa supporter, this transfer window has become a true statement of intent. Signing Fletcher Boyd is not just a smart bit of business, it feels like the club is setting foundations for something special. His rise at Aberdeen and that immediate impact on debut? That’s not by chance. He’s got flair and fight, which Emery thrives on. This could be another Jacob Ramsey in the making.
The Rogers situation is more nerve-wracking. £100million is a massive figure, but honestly, that’s how modern football works. When you’ve got clubs like Tottenham lurking, trying to tempt our talent away just as they hit top gear, it’s refreshing to see Villa say, “back off, he’s ours unless you pay big.”
What’s exciting is how both stories tie together. We’re not just selling to the highest bidder anymore, we’re building. You can see the long-term vision now and Boyd could be a part of something very real. If we keep Rogers and land Boyd before the window shuts, it’ll feel like Villa have just won the summer.
