GONDOMAR, PORTUGAL – JULY 05: Joao Cancelo, football player for Alhilal Saudi Club and the Portugal national team, arrives at a funeral held for Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva at Igreja Matriz de Gondomar on July 05, 2025 in Gondomar, Portugal. Diogo Jota was a professional football player for Liverpool FC and the Portuguese national team, while Andre Silva played for FC Penafiel in Portugal’s second tier. Barcelona and Inter have set their sights on Cancelo, who is desperate to return to European football in the coming weeks.

However, both clubs are only willing to sign the versatile wingback on loan until the end of the season.

Furthermore, Cancelo’s staggering wages pose a stumbling block.

Barcelona’s well-documented financial turmoil makes it impossible for the club to meet the player’s €18 million annual salary.

Therefore, the reigning La Liga champions are unlikely to bring the former Man City star back to Camp Nou.

On the other hand, Inter could accelerate talks with Cancelo’s entourage in the coming hours.
