Chelsea are closely monitoring Boca Juniors youngster Milton Delgado who impressed at the U20 World Cup according to reports.

The Blues are known for targeting and signing the best youngsters from around the world, and it now forms a large part of their transfer strategy.

Chelsea have particularly honed in on the South American market, with both Estevao and Andrey Santos now part of the first team picture.

Whilst it’s clear Chelsea need to strengthen at centre back and in goal, the Blues are always on the lookout for the stars of tomorrow.

Boca Noticias have reported Chelsea are closely monitoring Delgado, who impressed at the recent U20 World Cup.

The report adds the 20-year-old is believed to have a release clause of €17.2m, whilst Boca management don’t want him to leave.

Delgado is a defensive midfielder who’s come through the ranks at Boca, and has made 35 appearances for the first team.

The youngster has been capped 20 times for Argentina U20s, and is under contract with Boca until the end of 2028.

Financially Chelsea could certainly afford the move, and they would be able to help Delgado develop, perhaps by sending him to Strasbourg, but in terms of the long term Chelsea are stacked in midfield.

Chelsea have a real South American feel

The Blues are starting to have a real South American feel to them, with Joao Pedro, Estevao, Santos, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo all part of the first team set-up.

Chelsea also have promising youngsters Kendry Paez and Aaron Anselmino out on loan, who could be part of the first team squad next season.

Clearly not all the signings will work out, but there’s so much talent in South America, and it’s great to finally see Chelsea using that market to really good effect.
