Chelsea are among the Premier League clubs keeping a close watch on Gianluca Prestianni, with TeamTalk reporting that Benfica are preparing talks over a new long-term deal for the Argentina attacker.
The 20-year-old has been on the radar of leading English sides for some time, and his progress in Portugal has only sharpened that focus. Prestianni is described as being part of a group of players under regular review, with Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Brighton all said to have checked on his development in recent months.
At this stage, the situation appears to be one of assessment rather than action. The key line is that “no formal approaches are currently being prepared”, which places this firmly in the category of strong scouting interest rather than an imminent transfer battle. Even so, the wider feeling is clear, “interest in the winger is growing as he continues to impress in Portugal.”

Prestianni’s pathway has followed a familiar elite-club model. After emerging at Velez Sarsfield as one of South America’s leading teenage talents, he made the move to Benfica in 2024, a step widely viewed as ideal for his development. That call now looks increasingly well judged.
Having used last season to break into Benfica’s senior setup, he has kicked on again. More than 30 appearances across competitions laid the platform, and this term he has added end product to promise, with six goals and three assists. The report highlights his “creativity, pace and technical quality”, qualities that naturally appeal to Chelsea’s recruitment team as they continue to target high-upside young players.
The broader point for Chelsea is that this is exactly the sort of profile the club have consistently explored, youthful, dynamic, coachable, and with room for value growth. Prestianni being a “twice-capped Argentine international” only strengthens the sense that he is moving into a higher bracket.
Benfica, for their part, are not passive observers. According to the report, “Benfica are aware of the growing attention surrounding Prestianni and are keen to strengthen their position by tying him down to a new long-term contract.” That is a familiar response from a club with a proven record of developing and selling top talent at premium prices.
The Portuguese side “view the twice-capped Argentine international as an important asset for the future and are determined to protect his value amid rising interest from abroad.” For Chelsea and the other interested clubs, that means any future move is likely to become more expensive if his trajectory continues upward.
For now, patience is the theme. “As things stand, the situation remains at the monitoring stage for interested Premier League sides, with clubs gathering information rather than actively pursuing negotiations.” Still, if Prestianni maintains his current rate of progress, this is one to keep firmly in view ahead of the next windows.
From a Chelsea supporter perspective, this report feels believable, but also slightly familiar. The club have built a reputation for moving early on emerging talent, and Prestianni certainly sounds like another player who fits that blueprint. The age, the profile, the upside, all of it makes sense. At the same time, there is always a question over timing.
If Benfica are already moving towards a new contract, Chelsea may have to decide whether this is a player to push for quickly or simply keep monitoring. That matters, because there is a difference between admiring a talent and truly believing he is ready to contribute in the Premier League. The report makes clear that “no formal approaches are currently being prepared”, and that suggests no club has fully committed yet.
There is also the squad-building angle. Chelsea have no shortage of wide attacking options on paper, so another young winger would need a clear pathway. Supporters will understandably wonder whether this is elite planning or just another name on a very long shortlist. If the recruitment team believe Prestianni has the quality to become a major first-team player, then the interest is easy to understand. If not, it may be wiser to focus on more immediate needs.
For now, this feels like a situation worth watching rather than expecting. The talent appears real, the competition is significant, and Benfica know exactly what they are doing when it comes to protecting value.
