The Blues announced Xabi Alonso as their manager earlier this month, with the Spaniard signing a four year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are preparing for a busy summer with reinforcements required in a number of key areas of the squad, including centre back, midfield and attack.
Alonso will reportedly have a say in transfers, which is different to previous head coaches Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.
Co-owner Behdad Eghbali has said the recruitment model will be tweaked this summer, and it’s understood the Blues have acknowledged they need to sign proven Premier League quality.
The centre back department needs overhauling, and Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Jan Paul van Hecke and Maxence Lacroix.
Chelsea were also linked with Konate this week, after it was announced the France international would leave Liverpool on a free this summer.
However, TEAMtalk have reported Chelsea won’t make an offer for the 27-year-old because any deal would require significant wages, signing on fees and agent commissions.
Konate would have been a great option for the Blues given his experience and the fact he’s a proven quantity in the Premier League.
