Chelsea enquired about Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal

Chelsea have added strength and quality to their squad this summer, and have arguably improved the starting line-up compared to last season.

Whilst improving the starting team is important, Chelsea have also been targeting the stars of the future since the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership took over in 2022.

Chelsea have heavily targeted the South American market and have signed big talents in Kendry Paez, Andrey Santos and Estevao.

The Blues have also tracked PSG teenage sensation Senny Mayulu, and according to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo Chelsea were one of seven clubs to enquire about Bernal, along with fellow Premier clubs Brighton and Everton.

The 18-year-old has been sidelined with an ACL injury and was limited to just three appearances last season, but is due to return for the Spanish champions soon.

Bernal is a Spain under-17 international, but his contract expires at the end of the season, and he’s free to sign a pre agreement in January.

Chelsea tried to sign Fermin Lopez

Bernal wasn’t the only Barcelona player the Blues tried to sign, and they reportedly made a €40m offer for Fermin Lopez.

Chelsea were in contact with Lopez’s agents, but were unable to convince the player to swap Barcelona for London.

Lopez is set to remain on Chelsea’s list of targets for the future, and he spoke on their interest in him, but admitted he was more than happy at the La Liga outfit.
