La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Atalanta’s D’Amico is now the leading candidate for the role, but the Italian remains under contract with La Dea, so the Rossoneri must sit down with the Nerazzurri to convince them to release their director for 2025-26.

This suggests the Rossoneri won’t name their new sporting director in the coming weeks, also because Atalanta would not be exactly happy to give away a key part of their club to a direct rival.

D’Amico refused to comment on transfer speculation on Sunday, before Atalanta’s loss to Lazio.

Milan CEO Furlani confirmed on Saturday that the Rossoneri would be looking for a new director with deep knowledge of Italian football.

Gazzetta reports that the Rossoneri CEO will consider three other candidates who match the club’s needs on paper: Giovanni Sartori (Bologna), Giovanni Manna (Napoli), and Tare, a former Lazio director currently without a club.
