Celtic’s search for a new manager has taken another intriguing turn, with Sports Boom reporting that former Liverpool boss Arne Slot has emerged as a candidate under consideration at Parkhead.
The Dutch coach may have left Anfield under challenging circumstances, but his reputation remains strong across Europe. For a Celtic hierarchy eager to elevate the club beyond domestic dominance and into genuine European contention, Slot’s availability has understandably attracted attention.

Celtic’s managerial situation remains fluid.
Martin O’Neill, who guided the club to a domestic double in a temporary capacity, remains an option should he wish to continue. Robbie Keane has also been linked after narrowly missing out on the Hungarian title with Ferencvaros.

Yet Slot’s name brings a different dimension to the conversation.
His work at Feyenoord earned widespread admiration, while his spell at Liverpool delivered the club’s 20th league title. Such achievements inevitably place him among the more distinguished candidates currently available.
Celtic supporters have long measured success on more than domestic trophies.
Winning league titles and Scottish Cups remains essential, but meaningful progress in European competition continues to be the next challenge. Slot’s tactical organisation and experience at elite level could appeal to decision makers seeking fresh momentum on that front.
His familiarity with Celtic is also noteworthy. During his final season at Feyenoord, he faced the Scottish champions twice in the Champions League, winning one encounter and losing the other.
Those meetings provided a close view of both the strengths and limitations within the Celtic setup.
While criticism followed Liverpool’s fifth place finish last season, football often has a short memory when a coach possesses a proven record.
Slot’s achievements in Rotterdam and Liverpool ensure there will be no shortage of admirers. Sports Boom report that AC Milan are also monitoring his situation as they assess potential managerial changes.

For Celtic, this remains an ambitious possibility rather than an advanced negotiation. However, it demonstrates the level of candidate being discussed behind the scenes.
Brendan Rodgers once rebuilt his reputation at Celtic after departing Liverpool. Some at Parkhead may believe another former Liverpool manager could follow a similarly successful path.
From a Liverpool perspective, there would be surprise that Slot became available so quickly after delivering a league title. Whatever happened during his final season, his achievements should not be forgotten. Winning the Premier League remains one of football’s most difficult tasks.
From a Celtic standpoint, the attraction is obvious. Supporters have enjoyed domestic success for years, but many fans want the club to become more competitive in Europe. Slot’s tactical knowledge and experience against elite opposition could help bridge some of that gap.
There would naturally be questions. Managing Liverpool and managing Celtic are vastly different challenges. Expectations remain intense at both clubs, but resources and competitive landscapes differ significantly.
Even so, this feels like the type of appointment that would generate excitement throughout the support. Celtic fans appreciate coaches who play progressive football, develop players and embrace the club’s ambition.
Whether the move materialises is another matter entirely. Interest from clubs such as AC Milan would complicate any pursuit.
Yet if Celtic genuinely have a chance to appoint a manager with Slot’s credentials, many supporters would view it as a statement of intent. It would signal a desire not merely to dominate domestically, but to compete more effectively on the European stage as well.
