Galatasaray went to great lengths to lure Hakan Calhanoglu to Istanbul last summer.

Indeed, they even held talks with the midfielder’s agent to convince him to swap Serie A for his homeland.

However, the move never materialized, with Calhanoglu ultimately choosing to remain at San Siro.

In addition to making amends for a turbulent summer, Calhanoglu has flourished this season under Cristian Chivu.

For context, the skilled playmaker had amassed eight goals and four assists before suffering a calf injury at the start of the calendar year.

Still, Calhanoglu’s contract at Inter expires in 2027.

However, the Serie A leaders have no intention of parting with their midfield dynamo.

Therefore, Galatasaray will face an uphill task convincing Inter to sanction a deal

That rings especially true considering Chivu views Calhanoglu as a cornerstone of his project.
