Borussia Monchengladbach’s arm may be twisted into selling gifted young star Rocco Reitz in summer, German tabloid paper BILD reports.
It appears that the 22-year-old would like to stay put at Borussia Park for a while longer having extended his contract last February until 2028.
However, in negotiating the extension, an exit clause was secured by his agent which becomes active in the summer of 2026. The German could leave Die Fohlen for a fee of around €20million.
With Transfermarkt.de valuing the midfielder at €15million already, Gladbach may be forced to cash in on their prized asset. The Rhineland club, who are not in the healthiest financial position, are in need of income.
The Duisburg native is believed to have already attracted interest from potential suitors in England and Italy including Manchester City and AS Roma. If Reitz is to be sold the hope is that the fee will be in excess of the €20million release clause valid from 2026.
Funds could then be used by Gladbach to invest in other areas of the squad. Die Fohlen have already secured the services of Jens Castrop for €4.5million from 1.FC Nurnberg who will arrive next summer.
Other midfielders including Julian Weigl, Florian Neuhaus, Philipp Sander, 18-year-old prodigy Nicolas Swider and loan returnee Oscar Fraulo could also deputise if Reitz leaves.
Rocco’s younger 20-year-old brother, Tony Reitz, recently left Gladbach for pastures new and joined the Borussia Dortmund reserves.
