Inter Milan veteran Stefan de Vrij is reportedly at risk of missing out on his transfer to Qatari side Al-Sadd this summer.
According to L’Interista, Al-Sadd could sever ties with former Nerazzurri manager Roberto Mancini in the coming weeks.
Mancini was one of the reasons why Stefan de Vrij had considered continuing his career in the Middle East.
However, with Al-Sadd set to part ways with the Italian head coach, De Vrij’s move to the desert is far from a foregone conclusion.
Meanwhile, the 34-year-old’s summer exit is a virtual certainty, with Inter reluctant to renew his expiring contract.
Signed from Lazio in 2018, De Vrij has made nearly 300 competitive appearances for the Nerazzurri, helping them win two Serie A titles.
Furthermore, he was part of the squad to feature in two Champions League finals in 2023 and 2025.
However, the Dutchman has tumbled down the pecking order this season under new manager Cristian Chivu.
Indeed, after collecting just eight league starts, De Vrij is ready to pack his bags and embark on a new challenge away from Europe.
Whether Al-Sadd could be his next destination remains to be seen, especially now that Mancini is likely to leave the Qatari club.
