Juventus interest signals Mateta’s rising stock

Crystal Palace supporters have grown used to seeing Jean-Philippe Mateta discussed in increasingly lofty terms, but interest from Juventus feels like a notable shift in scale. According to Sky Sports, and Sky in Italy, the Serie A giants have made an inquiry about signing the Palace striker this month, a clear indication that Mateta’s performances are resonating well beyond Selhurst Park.

Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti has reportedly “given the green light for the club to pursue the striker, as he likes the player”. That endorsement matters. Spalletti’s sides have traditionally demanded tactical intelligence and physical reliability from their forwards, traits Mateta has developed steadily during his time in south London. At 28, he is no longer a project striker, but a forward in what should be his most productive years.

Spalletti approval adds weight to enquiry

Sky Sports note that Juventus are working on a replacement for Dusan Vlahovic and would prefer to sign Mateta immediately. Even if the Bianconeri decide not to invest this month, “it does not mean they will not do so in June, with Mateta one of long-term interest”. That framing feels important for Palace. This is not a fleeting transfer rumour attached to a busy window, but a sustained line of thinking from a club planning ahead.

Mateta’s profile fits neatly into that logic. Powerful, increasingly clinical, and now more consistent in his link play, he has moved beyond being a streaky scorer.

Premier League attention remains strong

Juventus are not alone. Sky Sports News reported earlier this month that Manchester United have a long-term interest in Mateta. While United are “not actively looking to sign a new striker in this window”, he “may be someone they more seriously look at if he becomes available”.

That line feels familiar to Palace fans. It reflects a broader Premier League reality where clubs monitor form strikers without immediate urgency, waiting for the right moment. For Mateta, being tracked by both Juventus and Manchester United reinforces the sense that his recent form has shifted external perceptions.

For Palace, the challenge lies in balancing ambition with reality. Mateta has become central to their attacking structure, and any decision on his future will shape the club’s direction as much as his own.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From a Crystal Palace supporter’s perspective, this report lands with a mix of pride and unease. There is satisfaction in seeing Mateta linked with Juventus, a club that does not tend to shop without conviction. It validates what Palace fans have seen week after week, a striker who has matured, sharpened his movement, and learned how to dominate Premier League defences.

At the same time, the timing feels awkward. Palace are not a club that benefits from mid-season disruption, and Mateta has become one of the few reliable sources of goals in the squad. Losing him in January would feel like pulling a key beam from an already delicate structure.

There is also a sense that Mateta’s value, sporting and financial, could rise further by June. If Juventus are prepared to wait, Palace arguably should be too. A full season of strong output would strengthen the club’s hand and underline that this is not a striker to be picked up cheaply.

For supporters, the hope is clarity. Either commit to building around Mateta as a leading figure, or extract maximum value if the club decides to sell. What would frustrate fans most is uncertainty dragging on. Interest from Juventus and Manchester United confirms Mateta has arrived at a new level. Palace now need to decide how boldly they want to act on that reality.
