Juventus are once again casting their gaze towards the Premier League, with Tottenham defender Djed Spence emerging as a potential target ahead of the summer transfer window. According to reporting from Gazzetta dello Sport, the Turin club view strengthening their wide defensive areas as a key step in their pursuit of Champions League qualification next season.
Spence, who renewed his Tottenham contract last summer until 2029, is now valued at around €30 million, a fee that reflects both his recent development and Spurs’ strengthened negotiating position. As Gazzetta dello Sport explain, “the Tottenham full-back could become a target next summer,” with Juventus considering several options to reinforce their squad.
For a club that has spent recent seasons recalibrating its sporting direction, Juventus are looking for players capable of contributing immediately. The Italian giants are aware that adaptation to Serie A can derail even promising signings, which makes Spence an intriguing candidate.
Part of Spence’s appeal lies in his familiarity with Italian football. The defender previously spent time at Genoa, appearing in 16 matches during 2024 and demonstrating a level of performance that convinced observers he could thrive in the league.
Gazzetta dello Sport note that “Spence knows Ottolini personally, who brought him to Genoa as part of the Dragusin deal, and therefore Serie A.” That relationship could prove significant if Juventus decide to pursue the deal more seriously in the coming months.
Spence’s versatility also plays in his favour. Naturally right footed, he has shown an ability to operate on either flank, a quality increasingly prized in modern football where tactical systems demand fluid movement and positional adaptability.
“Just like Cambiaso, he could also operate on the left,” the report explains, highlighting why Juventus may view him as more than a conventional right back.
While Spence has emerged as a candidate, he is not the only name under consideration in Turin. Juventus are also monitoring Roma’s Zeki Celik, whose contract situation could allow him to leave on a free transfer.

The difference between the two deals is stark. Signing Celik would represent a lower risk financial move, while acquiring Spence would require a notable investment.
As Gazzetta dello Sport point out, “the investment would be significant,” with Tottenham holding the leverage after extending the defender’s contract last year.
Juventus must also weigh other squad dynamics. Defender Pierre Kalulu has attracted attention from major clubs following an impressive season, while Andrea Cambiaso continues to generate transfer speculation of his own. These moving parts make Juventus’ approach to the full back position particularly complex.
For Tottenham, Spence’s growing reputation brings both opportunity and dilemma. Selling for a fee close to €30 million would represent strong business for a player who has steadily rebuilt his reputation after early struggles to establish himself.
At the same time, Spurs must decide whether his upward trajectory is better served in North London rather than sacrificed for transfer income.
If Juventus decide to act, the relationship between the clubs may smooth negotiations. As the report notes, “the relationship between Juventus and Tottenham is very solid,” suggesting any future talks could progress quickly should interest become formal.
For now, Spence remains a player to watch as the European transfer conversation quietly begins to take shape.
From a Spurs supporter’s perspective, this report sparks a mixture of intrigue and mild concern. Djed Spence has quietly developed into a far more reliable player than many expected after his early struggles at Tottenham.
There was a time when his future at the club felt uncertain. Loan spells and inconsistent opportunities suggested he might never truly settle in North London. What has happened since has been a reminder of how patience can reshape a player’s trajectory.
A potential €30 million valuation reflects genuine progress. If Juventus are seriously considering that level of investment, it suggests Spence’s performances are resonating beyond the Premier League.
For Tottenham, the real question revolves around squad planning. Selling Spence could represent excellent financial business, particularly if the club believe they have stronger options in the position. At the same time, supporters know how easily depth can disappear across a long season filled with domestic and European fixtures.
Spurs fans would likely view this as a decision about timing rather than quality. Spence has become a dependable option, energetic in attack and increasingly composed defensively.
