Juventus and Napoli could reportedly engineer a swap deal involving Federico Gatti and Stanislav Lobotka. According to Calciomercato, the two Serie A giants are weighing up an ambitious exchange.
Luciano Spalletti is eager to revamp his midfield options, with Teun Koopmeiners set to depart the club in the coming months. Furthermore, Juventus could also cut loose Khephren Thuram, who has generated plenty of interest across Europe, with Inter also in the mix.
Meanwhile, Spalletti, who made Lobotka central to his Napoli project during the club’s title-winning season in 2022/23, is keen to reunite with the Slovakian midfielder. The report states Spalletti will do everything to bring the 31-year-old to Turin. It’s worth noting that Lobotka’s contract runs out next summer.
On the other hand, Massimiliano Allegri is Gatti’s long-term admirer. After the Italian center-back lost his starting berth at Juventus, Allegri can realistically hope to lure him to Naples and pair him up with Allesandro Buongiorno and Amir Rrahmani at the heart of his three-man defense.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Lobotka’s contract, Napoli may not be enthusiastic about severing ties with the former Celta Vigo man. Indeed, he made 32 Serie A appearances last season, reinforcing his indispensable status at the club.
By contrast, Juventus are open to letting Gatti leave. They would have no problems ‘sacrificing’ the 28-year-old to secure Lobotka’s arrival. However, unless Napoli soften their stance on Lobotka, the Bianconeri may struggle to persuade their rivals without sweetening the proposal.
