Arsenal’s Sesko Pursuit Highlights Striker Dilemma

High-Stakes Game for Sesko’s Signature

Arsenal’s pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko has once again made headlines, with Sky Germany reporting that the Bundesliga club are demanding between £68.4m and £85.5m for the 22-year-old. Despite no formal bid yet from Arsenal, talks have taken place to explore the structure of a possible deal.

Sesko is not forcing an exit, but he’s believed to be interested in the move, particularly given Arsenal’s qualification for next season’s Champions League. “Sesko is understood to be relaxed about the situation and will not rock the boat to force a move,” Sky Germany states. Still, the player is reportedly “flattered by Arsenal’s long-standing interest in him.”

Leipzig Set Their Price – But Is It Worth It?

RB Leipzig are benchmarking Sesko’s value against recent striker deals involving Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak. And it’s not hard to see why. Sesko notched 21 goals and six assists across all competitions last season, including four goals in the Champions League – strong numbers for a player still early in his development.

While Leipzig were happy to extend Sesko’s contract until 2029 last summer, their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League has opened the door to a potential sale. Arsenal, who first considered a move for the Slovenian in January, are now in a stronger position to convince the player – but they’ll need to weigh the fee against the risk.

Gunners Weighing Their Options

Sesko isn’t the only forward on Arsenal’s radar. Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres is also a target, though reports indicate that Sporting have yet to receive any official offers. Their stance is firm – they won’t part with Gyokeres for less than £59m. Complicating matters further, Sporting president Frederico Varandas has denied any “gentleman’s agreement” allowing the striker to leave on favourable terms.

Alexander Isak, Arsenal’s third primary target, seems the most unlikely acquisition given Newcastle’s reluctance to sell.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From an Arsenal fan’s point of view, this transfer saga feels like déjà vu. Once again, we’re linked with a talented striker – in this case, Benjamin Sesko – yet there’s no sense of urgency from the club. The interest is clear, and the player appears keen, but the lack of a concrete offer raises concerns about whether we’re serious or just testing the waters.

Sesko’s profile fits Arteta’s system beautifully: tall, mobile, technical, and already proving himself at the highest level in Europe. His Champions League experience, in particular, is a major plus. Yes, £85.5m is a hefty price tag, but in today’s market, that’s the going rate for a young striker with elite potential. If Leipzig’s valuation is the barrier, we need to decide quickly whether to meet it or walk away.

What’s frustrating is that we’ve been here before. The pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic and others like him dragged on only to end in disappointment. With other clubs monitoring Sesko and Gyokeres, dithering could cost us again.

Supporters want decisive action. A top striker is the final piece in this squad’s evolution – one that could turn us from contenders to champions. Whether that’s Sesko or another target, it’s time to stop flirting and start bidding.
